Hello, I arrive at 11:40pm into SFO on Sunday. I'd like to use Kyte since it seems cheaper than a normal rental but wanted to check if this is too late? And what happens if my flight is delayed?

Hi Michael! We operate from 7 AM - 10 PM. Unfortunately 11:40 PM is outside of those hours. In case your flight is delayed, you can edit your trip within the app or reach out to a customer service agent through the app for assistance!

Hi Thom! You may return the car at any fuel level. If it is below the fuel level at the start of the trip, we will refuel it for you and charge you at local market rates! If you received a vehicle lower than full, we only charge up to that level… more

Kyte is THE PLACE -- the only place for our rental cars from now on. We were a pain with numerous questions and many rounds of last minute changes! Throughout our many conversations, these people were lovely, caring & oh so easy to work with. So personable! The car and Surfer who delivered it were fabulous.

I had a great experience with Kyte. I booked for Thanksgiving weekend, and the car was dropped off right on time. It was clean and in good condition and performed perfectly on our trip. I did remember to gas the car up at the end of my trip to avoid the high cost of asking Kyte to refill the tank. The car was picked up right on time as well. Overall a very seamless experience.
I'll just mention that I was happy to pay the fee for the drop-off and pick-up service because of my dreadful experience booking a rental car last Thanksgiving. After arriving on time at Enterprise to pick up my car, which had been booked well in advance, I stood in line for over an hour before being told I should start looking for alternative rental cars because of high demand. The first time I used Kyte my delivery was 30 minutes late because their cell phone batter had died. Today, they changed my reservation by 2 hours without informing me at all. Being 2 hours late was not an option, and thankfully Turo was a better and cheaper option.

I took a chance on Kyte during our trip to San Francisco for an overnight to Santa Rosa. The delivery, pick up, and Audi Q 3 sold me. However, I was nervous. Hey, I'm in my mid seventies and Kyte is an app with little human interaction. I ensured that both my wife and I were verified as drivers, and that my insurance coverage was downloaded. Bruce delivered my car to our hotel. He was great, and he helped load our luggage plus showed us the Audi's particulars. I tipped Bruce $10. He deserved it. Bruce used a scooter to return to the Kyte lot in the Mission.
My one mistake was not filling our car up with gas on our return. There were gas stations on the SF side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Kyte charged me more than $8.75 a gallon to fill my car after promising to use competitive pricing. Shame on you Kyte, but all the rental car companies do that. But, $8.75! Bruce came again to pick up my car at the appointed time. He was just as kind, and I tipped him an additional $10.00.
I wouldn't hesitate using Kyte again, but I would fill the car up with gas myself on my return.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Terrible customer service experience.
We rented a car in the San Francisco area for a 12-hour period. Within just 10 minutes of driving, a piece of the car's mirror detached -- it appeared to have been poorly repaired or hastily glued before our pickup. I immediately contacted the company to report the issue, but they were extremely difficult to communicate with and made the process unnecessarily frustrating. Despite my efforts, they still charged me over $600 for the damage. To make matters worse, in all the photos taken by the "surfer" at drop-off, the specific area where the damage occurred was never even documented. Overall, this was the most inconvenient experience I've ever had with a company supposedly built around the idea of convenience. I booked a Kyte 3 weeks ago to take my daughter and her friends to a water park for her birthday. A few hours before delivery, Kyte out of the blue cancelled my reservation with no explanation, leaving me to scramble for another solution on a Saturday afternoon. After contacting Kyte support they told me it was a system error, they couldn't fix it and offered me $50 in credit.
I can understand a glitch, but the way in which they took no responsibility or steps to help me fix the problem, renting a replacement car will cost ~$500 now ensures I will never trust Kyte again and you shouldn't trust them either.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Business owner information

Bad experience - they changed the pickup time without telling me and shaved 2 hours off the time but didn't reimburse me. Then they charged me an erroneous fee for a "missed pickup" after they didn't contact me upon arrival. They were also were rude and defensive on all customer service interactions. Overall would not ever use them again.

I have rented through Kyte twice. On one hand, the cars have been clean and the dropoff/pickup procedure has been seamless. On the downside, I was charged $100 for fuel during my last rental despite having filled up the tank immediately before parking. Working with customer service the charge was reduced to $14. I guess I should have topped-off the tank on the sidewalk to return the tank at completely full. Regardless, the whole experience left me feeling that the company was out to extract as much money as possible. Proceed with caution and keep an eye out for erroneous charges after the rental period. Blegh.

Just completed my last and final rental with Kyte. After initially having good experiences with the service, lately it has gone downhill.
I've had surfers unable to make the pickup window and lie in the app that they're picking up, then call me from their cell and tell me they'll be late. There's a pickup and delivery charge, and I'm asked to also tip on top of it. I had the window broken, and they took the full deposit even though the cost of repair was well below the deposit.
And my most recent experience, they accepted the rental time, then ghosted on delivery. I reached out in the app, got a new time 2 hours later, ghosted again on delivery. I had to reach out to them and they tried to push the delivery time back again, but I was already hours late to work. So I had to take a Lyft to their rental site.
After hours of back and forth with multiple reps, I was offered a partial refund and some credits. As I don't intend to ever use the service again, the credits are useless. I'm tired of my time being wasted.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Dec 29, 2023Previous reviewGreat service! I've used Kyte 10+ times over the past year, getting a car delivered to my place in the Sunset in San Francisco. Drivers are on time and cars are in better shape than a similar rental service. And they deliver and pick up!
They use a variable pricing model based on demand, and that works well for me as I tend to rent midweek. Give it a shot if you would otherwise be renting a car.
